We sat down this morning with Brittany Corey, office manager/account manager at Above and Beyond Insurance Agency in Novato, California and Endorsed Local Provider with the Dave Ramsey Show. The year just seems to be flying by so we took a few minutes to see where Brittany is at and what she is looking forward to in the near future:
What is the most valuable lesson you have learned in terms of finances through the Dave Ramsey program?
Brittany: The envelope system (a way to manage cash) has changed the way I spend money. I am definitely a spender and using the envelope system has made me more aware of my finances and where all of my money goes. Now I have the peace of mind knowing that I have better control over my finances.
What advice can you give someone who is thinking about reviewing their insurance policies?
Brittany: Consult with an independent agent who can get you multiple quotes from different companies. This will save you time and effort since your agent should be familiar with the latest offerings from insurance companies and recent updates that may affect your coverage. Your agent should also be able to explain what you actually need and what you can go without. Going beyond which policies to purchase, an independent agent can advise you on specific coverage limits you may want to increase or decrease. Plus, working with an independent agent allows you to go to just one place for all of your insurance needs and you can truly build a relationship with your agent where they know you, your loved ones, and what matters most to you.
What is an easy way to potentially save money on your insurance?
Brittany: Try to bundle all policies with one insurance company. You can get a multi-policy discount by simply having your auto, homeowner, and umbrella all with the same company. Also ask about all available discounts. If you have a child on your auto policy and he or she has a GPA of 3.0 or higher, be sure to ask your agent to apply the good student discount to save money on your premium.
Looking ahead at the future, what excites you most about your role as a Dave Ramsey Endorsed Local Provider (ELP)?
Brittany: I love meeting people who are at different stages of the Dave Ramsey program and at different stages of life in general. One minute I might be talking to a 22-year-old who just graduated college and is living out on their own. The next minute, I might be talking to a 65-year-old who is on the brink of retirement and looking to consolidate their expenses. Being able to help people meet their financial goals is really exciting to me and I am grateful that I can be a part of my clients’ financial success.
